Introduction
The Ph.D. in Systems and Entrepreneurial Engineering focuses on systems engineering, engineering design, and entrepreneurial engineering topics across disciplinary lines involving optimal interfacing between engineering and science, mathematics, and business at a systems level. Students will work closely with top-tier faculty to complete independent research contributing to their area of choice.
Admissions
Scholarships and Funding
Students in our Ph.D. program are fully funded through The Grainger College of Engineering’s Five-Year PhD Funding Guarantee during their first five years of enrollment. Students are guaranteed a funded appointment for fall and spring that includes a full tuition waiver, a partial fee waiver, and a stipend. Students are also eligible for summer support. Students must remain in Good Academic Standing and successfully perform the duties of their assistantships.
Students are also encouraged to seek out fellowships and assistantships through our department and various partners.
Curriculum
Students pursuing a Ph.D. in Systems and Entrepreneurial Engineering have the option of entering the program with a bachelor's or master's degree. If entering with a bachelor's, students may earn their master's degree during the program or not at all.
Entering with a master's degree
- 64 total hours
- 32 hours of thesis credit
- 20 hours of 400/500-level SE courses
- 12 hours of STEM course credit outside the major
Entering with a bachelor's degree
- 96 total hours
- 40 hours of thesis credit
- 32 hours of 400/500-level SE courses
- 12 hours of STEM course credit outside the major
- 12 hours of elective course credit chosen with advisor
Required for all students
- Hold a minimum GPA of 3.25 to graduate from the program
- Pass written and oral qualifying exams
- Pass preliminary exam
- Pass the final exam or dissertation defense
- Pay dissertation deposit
