The PhD program in Computer Sciences aims at the development of competences, skills and advanced methods of investigation in Informatics, as well as specialization based on a broad knowledge of the Informatics area. It is intended to offer learning in a research environment, with the main objective of training researchers, university professors, and leaders in innovation processes in the fundamental and applied areas of Computer Sciences. The training and skills acquired provide our students with greater professional and career opportunities in the field of research in public and private institutions, technological companies and in higher education.

The PhD in Biochemistry aims to contribute to the strengthening and consolidation of scientific research, through advanced training and specialized training of human resources in the Biochemistry area, in order to train researchers with a high ethical sense, rigor and scientific integrity, able to conceive, carry out and evaluate scientific research projects, in an autonomous way, in this scientific area. The aim of the course is to provide students with skills to systematically understand subjects in the scientific field of Biochemistry and the ability to carry out original research with high academic quality and integrity standards, to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas, communicate research results and promote technological or social progress in a knowledge-based society.

The doctorate provides a space of training and advanced high-level research not only for those from the academy, but also for those who deal with architecture in the context of professional practice to whom this course presents the possibility of deepening knowledge and developing skills in the area of Architecture. The thesis can integrate practical work of the project in architecture as a form of advanced research, as a context of scientific research. The course is intended to work within an international context, empowering students to work in a high academic level in a global competitive; Provides transdisciplinary knowledge on conceptual, formal and practical issues, on critical thinking, in planning and accomplishment works such as context landscape, in a comprehensive way, as cultural heritage (monumental, industrial, urban, architectural and landscape) in a more specific way with research application.

The PhD in Management at the University of Évora is one of the oldest PhD programs in this scientific area in Portugal. The program is intended for those who want to pursue an academic career or do research either in public or private institutions, or those who want to pursue top management careers. The program provides solid training in the various fields of management and aims to deepen knowledge and develop research skills in management.

The PhD in Political Theory, International Relations and Human Rights, created in partnership by the Universities of Évora and the Azores, is distinguished by the centrality it gives to questions of citizenship and human rights, contextualized in the international system, driven by heterogeneous trends and forces that are sometimes contradictory. With the support of a faculty with high scientific and disciplinary competence and anchored in the solid research experience inserted in Research Centers of Excellence, this doctorate aims to develop a deep theoretical knowledge, which in a versatile and transdisciplinary way, boosts the development of critical analyzes , which represent an innovative and consistent contribution to research at national and international level.

The Doctoral Program in Mathematics presents advanced training in Theoretical and Applied Mathematics, with an emphasis on Algebra and Logic (Number Theory and Cryptography), in Mathematical Analysis (Differential Equations, Calculus of Variations and Optimal Control, Dynamical Systems and Numerical Applications) and in Statistics (Statistics, Operational Research and Probabilities). In the dissertation, an in-depth study of a part of Mathematics and/or its applications is required in order to overcome the frontiers of mathematical knowledge when solving open problems and/or starting a new theory.

The Ph.D. Programme in Economics is a four-year, full-time programme. The first three semesters are devoted to coursework; the remaining semesters are devoted to the preparation of the Ph.D. dissertation.

Tourism is by far the most important activity in the Algarve region. Hence, the University of Algarve (UAlg) recently selected Tourism Studies as one of its central domains (its academic cadre hosts the largest number of PhD holders in Tourism Studies in Portugal).
