PhD Degrees in Journalism and Mass Communication in South Africa

The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.

Journalism is a field that focuses on bringing information regarding local, national, and international events to the attention of the general public. Journalists help inform people through interviews, observation, or by reading and summarizing past articles and relevant documents.
