The Chemical Biology Program emphasizes the interface between Chemistry and Biology, as well as its potential applications for other fields. It involves the study of interactions between small molecules and their possible biological targets, the study of biological pathways using chemical tools, drug delivery, as well as chemical understanding of disease states, in order to create basic science knowledge for future drug discovery efforts.The Program has been designed to train graduates to be capable of initiating collaborations on new frontiers of research with a multidisciplinary nature.
Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent in the above-mentioned fields, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 at the Master’s level.
Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honors are also eligible.

Students entering this Program are trained in all fields of Biochemistry including bioenergetics, enzymology, molecular biology, protein chemistry and structure, immunochemistry, xenobiochemistry (biochemistry of foreign substances), chemical and cellular fundaments of the metabolic reactions etc. Students participating in the Program are actively involved in grant-supported research projects at the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Science of Charles University Prague as well as in the collaborating laboratories at the Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic, and in regional and company laboratories. The studies in the Program are successfully completed after obtaining the English Language Certificate (issued by independent organizations), and after passing the State Doctoral Examination in biochemistry and two other subjects (usually suggested by the supervisor), and the defense of the PhD Thesis the important part of which is at least one publication in international peer-reviewed journal at which the candidate must be the principal author....

QBM seeks to train a cohort of young scientists who, while firmly anchored in their home discipline, are well versed in multiple approaches and styles of thought. The goal is for the students to get comfortable in communicating across traditional boundaries, especially across the divide between experiment and quantitative theory – to become, in effect, scientifically bi- or multilingual. To this end, the school offers an integrated interdisciplinary Ph.D. program that consists of three main components:
An interdisciplinary research project which combines concepts and methods from different fields.
A substantial program of formal course work with a general and an individual component centered around an interdisciplinary core course that covers key problems in bioscience from multiple perspectives.
