Program Description

Programme Overview

HKBU School of Business offers 4-year full-time PhD across five main disciplines, namely Accountancy and Law (ACLW), Economics (ECON), Finance and Decision Sciences (FDS), Management (MGNT) and Marketing (MKT). Combining academic rigour with a resolutely international approach, these programmes are ideal for future business leaders or scholars.

PhD students work in close collaboration with world-class faculty as thesis supervisor, but also a mentor and coach to support you in this intellectual journey. Students will have the opportunity to act as a part-time lecturer in the undergraduate programme. This opportunity, available in the final year of study, is an ideal stepping stone for those seeking a career in academia. Financial assistance in various forms is available through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.

Learning Goals

The Learning Goals (LGs) of the RPG Programmes (MPhil and PhD) are threefold:

  • LG1: Students will acquire advanced knowledge and theories in their areas of specialization and research skills requisite for pursuing independent research on their chosen topics.
  • LG2: Students will develop the ability to design and conduct original research in their fields of specialization.
  • LG3: Students will be able to teach college-level courses in their areas of specialization.

  • PhD - Doctor of Philosophy

The supervision of postgraduate research students is an integral part of each Department’s activities. These students undertake full-time studies and research towards a PhD degree. Students from Hong Kong, China and overseas countries have been accepted on this programme.

The selection of areas of study and research is limited only by the student’s interests and each department’s resources. To assist prospective students in identifying possible options, the following is a list of disciplines/fields of study offered by the departments.
